Ambulance Victoria(AV) introduced the Advanced Life Support (ALS) program across the State in March 2001 following the publishing of the Victorian Ministerial Taskforce report labelled 'Review Of Trauma And Emergency Services - Victoria 1999'. Initially the 6 month course was conducted externally at both Monash & Victoria University, but is now part of the 3 year diploma course undertaken by all new students entering the Victorian Ambulance Service.
