Colac Station currently operates 3 vehicles (2 Mercedes 316 Sprinters and
a Sedan response vehicle) with one vehicle being manned 24 hours
per day with a crew of two full-time staff (usually with one
MICA Paramedic  & one ALS  Paramedic).

Mercedes Sprinter

The Mercedes Sprinter was introduced as a trial vehicle into RAV in 2000 as a possible replacement for the 'A Series' GMC.  The Mercedes 312 (introduced into service in 2000) and Mercedes 316 CDI, have both failed to meet RAV standards as an effective emergency response vehicle to replace the aging GMCs. The latest versions of the Mercedes 316 now stationed at Colac (introduced into service late 2004), with it's improved engine performance, transmission and seating, is now the preferred emergency response vehicle.

The rear patient compartment was also designed in line with new OH&S guidelines, and again with input from on road Ambulance staff.  Vehicles are currently being fitted out by Mader International in Tasmania.

Cost of the current 316 is estimated to be aprroximately $140,000 each (fully equipped).

The Holden Sedan is used by the Colac Station as a primarily emergency response vehicle for on-call staff to allow one stretcher vehicle to remain at the station in case of additional cases.
